WV-AATG Sprint Retreat “Meaningful Arts Integration” 2008
The retreat opened with a hands-on and minds-on presentation by Miriam Roth and Sandra Schoder, WVU. The participants engaged in meaningful integration of visual arts, drama and storytelling, music, movement and dance, as well as literature and poetry activities.
Gertraud Irwin presents the “Step into the painting” story to the participants.
During the workshop the participants write “Funny Commercials” in groups that everyone enjoyed and laughter filled the room. A “line-up” activity started the drama and story telling part of the presentation and everyone engages in the activity. “Boring Words” are spoken with emphasis to make them more interesting – a good alternative for chorus speaking in the language classroom.
The next presentation, “Fairy Tales in the German Language Classroom” by Miriam Roth, explained the application of the movie “Die 7 Zwerge – der Wald ist nicht genug” in the German classroom and presented integration ideas for the teachers.
The retreat hosted the secod WV-AATG Outstanding German Student Award ceremony and honored the following students that were accompanied by their parents, families and friends during the luncheon (from left to right):
